SMU-IN-SPAIN PROGRAM - MADRID

SMU IN SPAIN PROGRAMThe SMU-IN-SPAIN Program offers students the unique opportunity of studying in Madrid, Spain, and becoming familiar with its culture, history, life and language. The Program has been developed in collaboration with the José Ortega y Gasset Foundation since 1989, a prestigious academic institution affiliated with the Complutense University of Madrid.

The Foundation has many years of experience teaching American undergraduate students at its International center in Toledo and offers Masters and PH.D. programs for Spanish-speaking graduate students at its center in Madrid. The SMU-IN-SPAIN Program draws on the expertise of the Foundation offering a curriculum which covers History, Spanish Language and Literature, Latinamerican Studies, Art History and Business.

The curriculum is divided into two independent semesters. All courses, except for those in Spanish Language and Literature, are offered in English or Spanish (upon request). Two semesters of beginning Spanish and one semester of intermediate Spanish will be required for enrollment.

The Program starts with the Orientation Course in Toledo, as part of the course "Spanish Culture and Civilization ". This course is required for all students and includes assigned readings, papers, lectures and extensive travel, with cultural visits to Toledo, Madrid, Segovia, El Escorial and two long trips to Andalucía and Barcelona.
